POLESTAR Engine management systems

The POLESTAR Management system is a low cost yet highly sophisticated mapped ignition system, providing many of the features found only on systems costing much more. Although developed for the Mini A-Series engine the POLESTAR system can be used on virtually any none fuel-injected engine. The system features include,

- Crankshaft position sensor for greater accuracy.
- Ignition timing controlled to +/- 1 degree at 8000rpm.
- Timing adjusted every 250rpm increments from 0-10000rpm.
- Integral 'smooth-cut' rev limiter included as standard.
- Increased power and torque.
- Improved starting and smoother running.
- 4 & 6 engines.
- 3D ignition map with optional throttle position sensor 'TPS'.
- Optional 'boost retard' feature with integral MAP sensor for Turbo engines.
- Optional knock sensor with automatic retard on knock detection.

Managment System

This includes RCU, Timing disk, magnetic sensor, and full fitting instructions. The system can be supplied containing an ignition advance curve to suit your engine. (although a dyno or rolling road mapping session is recommended).

Turbo Management System

This includes everything in the above system but also with an intergral MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor and the 'boost retard' feature.

NEW POLESTAR Fuel Injection

Originally developed and tested in conjunction with Bryan Slark of Slark Race Engineering and Jon Lee of LynxAE and Steve Harris of Harris Motorsport using their dyno facilities.
The POLESTAR fuel injection system has been specifically designed for the A-Series engine. It can be used in either single point or multipoint sequential mode (requiring a cam sensor). It will operate with turbo/supercharged and normally aspirated engines. When running in twinpoint sequential mode injector timing is carefully controlled to ensure correct mixture balance between the cylinders sharing an inlet port.
The system consists of a management ECU, a magnetically operated crankshaft sensor and a timing disk which attaches to the crankshaft pulley of an A-Series engine. (it can be modified to fit many other types of engine). Various other sensor are required depending on the system type. These are typically a throttle position sensor, MAP sensor, water temperature sensor and inlet air temperature sensor.
All POLESTAR ECUs provide a standard rev counter output, and the fuel injection ECUs can control the engine cooling fan, fuel pump and idle control value.

- Sequential twin-point fuel injection specifically designed for the A-Series engine (requires cam sensor).
- Optional single point mode (multi-injector).
- 2D or 3D Ignition only distributor-less versions also available.
- Direct crankshaft trigger for greater accuracy.
- Accurate control of ignition timing and fuelling.
- Timing/Fuelling adjusted with 8 load sites at every 500 rpm from 0-10000rpm.

Distributors

New to our product range are distributors which replace the original LUCAS, FORD, DUCELLIER and DELCO types fitted to many British vehicles from the fifties onwards.

The distributors listed below are all brand new and although you may be able to buy cheaper units you will not get better. They are all individually checked and tested.

These distributors do not have tachometer drives, if you need a tachometer drive on the distributor then we will have to rebuild yours. Most competition cars will use an electronic tachometer and in that instance these distributors will be fine.

Prices quoted are for standard specification distributors with push on vacuum connectors.
We offer three different states of tune in addition to standard.

Mild Road.
Shortened and strengthened advance curve retaining vacuum capsule.

Fast Road.
Shortened and strengthened advance curve with vacuum capsule removed.

Rally/Race.
Further strengthened and modified advance curve with vacuum capsule removed.


As a rule we do not stock modified distributors as these are tuned to customers individual requirements. We can modify an advance curve to suit most requirements.
Modified distributors cost an additional £15.00.

We can rebuild most distributors.When a distributor cannot be rebuilt because of damage or shortage of parts we can sometimes modify our new distributors to suit your individual requirements.

KAD Front subframe solid top mounts (1013297)

  • Finished in anodised alloy.
  • Prevents unwanted lateral movement between the sub frame and the body of late Mini's.

  • Left and right hand threaded to allow adjustment of castor angles without removal of the tie rod from the car

There maybe a clearance issue with the camber bracket if fitted with Poly type subframe bushes, if so, a little trimming of the bush may be required

KAD Mini Rear disc conversion (1012070)

This has been developed to fill the need for a lightweight rear disc brake conversion with an effective mechanical handbrake to replace the standard drum brakes at the rear. The rationale was never to increase braking effort at the rear of the car but to reduce weight. Even with alloy wheel hubs and alloy wheel cylinders, drum brakes cannot be reduced below 4.6kgs on a cost effective basis due to the weight of steel in items such as the brake shoes, mechanism and backplates.

The calipers are a single piston sliding type, fully dust sealed, machined from billet aluminium. The hubs, carrying a lightweight steel drilled disc are CNC machined from billet aluminium and accept standard Mini wheel bearings. The kits are supplied complete with all of the parts to convert from drum to disc brake and use the standard handbrake cables. The kit will fit under 10" wheels and has been designed with both road and competition usage in mind.

Weight 2.8kg (the lightest drum brake assembly weighs 4.64kgs)
